What is alpha-Bisabolol?

Alpha Bisabolol, a derivative of M. chamomilla (German chamomile), is an optically active unsaturated sesquiterpene alcohol, obtained by extraction from natural raw materials. Studies have shown that the most important effects of Alpha Bisabolol for the use in cosmetics are anti-inflammatory, wound-healing, anti-bacterial and anti-mycotic. As the essential ingredient in the formulation of many personal care products, alpha-Bisabolol is under threat in Brazil due to the danger to the natural environment of the candeia plant it is derived from. Alpha Bisabolol helps administer active ingredients transdermally by enhancing skin penetration. Bisabolol is also found in some lotions for reducing wrinkles and acne.
