About Green tea extract

Green tea extract is obtained from leaves of camellia sinensis, the plant which green, black and oolong teas are made from. It contains a potent antioxidant, EGCG, which is over 200 times more powerful than vitamin E in neutralizing the pro-oxidants and free radicals that attack lipids in the brain. Green tea extract inhibits intestinal lipid absorption and may regulate hepatic lipid accumulation. The use of green tea extract may stop cervical cancer from forming in patients with human papillomavirus and low-grade cervical intraepithelial neoplasia. The FDA concluded that there is no credible evidence to support qualified health claims for green tea or green tea extract reducing the risk of heart disease.
