About Pradofloxacin
Pradofloxacin is a new generation of fluoroquinolone antibiotic with broad-spectrum antibacterial activity. It exerts its bactericidal effect by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, thus preventing bacterial DNA replication and repair. Pradofloxacin is primarily used to treat bacterial diseases in dogs and cats, including skin infections, urinary tract infections, and respiratory infections.
Due to its excellent antibacterial activity, pradofloxacin has been used clinically in veterinary settings in Europe and the United States, mainly for acute urinary tract infections, pyoderma, and wound infections caused by pathogenic Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus intermedius in dogs. It can also be used as an adjunct treatment for severe periodontal disease. In cats, in addition to skin infections, it can treat acute upper respiratory tract infections caused by Pasteurella multocida, Escherichia coli, and Staphylococcus intermedius. Besides the specified species, it has also been reported for use in pet rabbits to treat Gram-negative infections such as Pasteurella multocida, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Escherichia coli.
