1. Inhibit the degradation of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) by DPP-4 enzyme in vivo, prolong the action time of GLP-1, thereby increasing the concentration of endogenous GLP-1 and GIP in blood, and finally improve blood sugar control;
2. Inhibit the secretion of glucagon from pancreatic α cells;
3. Delay gastric emptying to facilitate postprandial blood sugar control;
4. Inhibits intestinal secretion of lipoproteins and may reduce postprandial hyperlipidemia as a risk factor for cardiovascular disease, thereby having a cardioprotective effect;

About Omarigliptin (MK-3102)
Omarigliptin is a potent, long-acting oral antidiabetic drug of the DPP-4 inhibitor class used for once-weekly treatment of type 2 diabetes and currently under development by Merck & Co. It inhibits DPP-4 to increase incretin levels (GLP-1 and GIP), which inhibit glucagon release, which in turn increases insulin secretion, decreases gastric emptying and decreases blood glucose levels.
