About Bulevirtide
Bulevirtide is a novel antiviral medication being studied primarily for the treatment of chronic hepatitis D, a liver infection caused by the hepatitis D virus (HDV). 
Bulevirtide functions as a sodium-dependent viral entry inhibitor. It prevents the hepatitis D virus from entering liver cells, thus interrupting the infection process.
The main mechanism of action of bulevirtide is to competitively bind to NTCP, preventing HBV and HDV from entering host cells, and it can effectively inhibit viral replication and transcription in infected hepatocytes. Furthermore, bulevirtide has shown significant inhibitory effects on HBV and HDV in both in vitro and in vivo studies. It is specifically indicated for adults with chronic hepatitis D in combination with other treatments for hepatitis B, as HDV relies on the presence of hepatitis B virus (HBV) to replicate.
