Exemestane(Exemestone) Product Description:
Exemestane (trade name Aromasin) is a drug used to treat breast cancer with hormonal therapy.Exemestane acts as a false substrate for the aromatase enzyme. This means it blocks the enzyme aromatase (found in the body’s muscle, skin, breast and fat),which is used to convert androgens (hormones produced by the adrenal glands) into estrogen. In the absence of estrogen, tumors dependent on this hormone for growth will shrink.
Exemestane is a member of the class of drugs known as aromatase inhibitors. Some breast cancers require estrogen to grow. Those cancers have estrogen receptors (ERs), and are called ER-positive. They may also be called estrogen-responsive, hormonally-responsive, or hormone-receptor-positive. Aromatase is an enzyme that synthesizes estrogen. Aromatase inhibitors block the synthesis of estrogen. This lowers the estrogen level, and slows the growth of cancers.
Effect of Exemestane:
Exemestane treat breast cancer, but it will bring some effects like:Bone pain/Decreased bone mineral density;Joint pain (arthralgias);Increased sweating;High blood pressure(hypertension);Hair thinning;Insomnia (sleep problems) etc…
